The Myler C Sleeve Loose Ring Bit is a mild bit of polished sweet iron, with stainless steel cheeks and copper inlay. This is a terrific bit to encourage salivation and relaxation of the horse’s jaw. The mouthpiece of this bit is labeled at MB 01. This is in reference to the Myler Bitting System and indicates the shape of the mouthpiece. This mouthpiece is a ‘Comfort Snaffle Narrow Barrel’ which is named for the small, barrel-shaped joint in the middle. The mouthpiece is considered by many to be a more comfortable alternative to a single jointed snaffle. It is shaped with more room for the horse’s tongue, and will not hinge in the same manner as the traditional snaffle, which often hits the palate of a horse in its nutcracker action. The mouthpiece is made of sweet iron, which will oxidize with the moisture in a horses’ mouth and release a sweet taste that many horses love. Because of this oxidation, the horse will salivate more, and thus be more sensitive and responsive to the rein aids. The copper inlay adds to the appeal of the mouthpiece for the horse. Sweet iron turns grey as this happens, and therefore the cheeks of the C Sleeve Loose Ring Bit by Myler has the shine of stainless steel! The ‘sleeve’ eliminates the risk of any pinching from the rotation of the rings in the corners of the mouth. This bit is considered a Level 1 in the Myler system for the horse - a horse learning basic gaits, transitions and obedience.
